Antiulcer activity of aqueous extracts of Annona squamosa seed extract was studied in Rats by pyloric ligation method. The extract at dose of 100,200 mg/kg produced significant inhibition of gastric lesion induced by Pylorus ligation induced ulcer. The parameters taken to assess anti-ulcer activity were volume of gastric secretion, PH, free acidity, total acidity and ulcer index. The results indicate that the alcoholic extract significantly (P<0.001) decreases the volume of gastric acid secretion, PH, free acidity, total acidity and ulcer index with respect to control....
In the present study, Anxiolytic activity of Ethanolic Extract of Madhuca longifolia flowers(EEML) was evaluated. Anxiolytic effect of Ethanolic Extract of Madhuca longifolia flowers (100and 200 mg/kg) was studied and diazepam used as a standard drug by using following Elevated plus Maze (EPM). The closed field test showed that after administration of ethanolic extract of Madhuca longifolia flowers (100 and 200 mg/kg) or diazepam (2 mg/kg), there was significant decrease in the number of rearing, assisted rearing and number of squares traveled compared to the control group which might be attributed to the anxiolytic activity of the plant extract....
Artemisia vulgaris L. is also known as common mugwort. It is Perennial herb or weed belonging to family Asteraceae. It has been widely distributed in North America, Europe, South Africa, and also found in India .This Plant has been used in traditional system of medicines for its vital therapeutic benefits. The important pharmacological activities are Antimicrobial, Hepatoprotective, Anti-inflammatory, Antifungal, Antiplasmodial, Antioxidant etc. and Phytochemical constituents present in drug such as: Terpenoids,flavonoids,Camphor,Thujone,1-8 Cineole, borneol etc. Thus the literature survey has been done to elaborate the Phytochemical and Pharmacological investigation of this medicinal plant so that it can be utilized to its maximum potential....
The aim of the study was to evaluate the anti-oxidant potency of various extracts of stem bark of Bauhinia variegata Linn. In this study, antioxidant activity of B. variegata bark extract was evaluated in a series of in-vitro assay involving free radicals and reactive oxygen species and IC50 values were determined. The bark extract exhibited its scavenging effect in concentration dependent manner on superoxide anion radicals, hydroxyl radicals, nitric oxide radical, hydrogen peroxide, and property of metal chelating and reducing power. The results obtained in the present study indicate that B. variegata bark extract can be a potential source of natural antioxidant that may be due to the presence of flavanoids and related polyphenolic compounds....
Arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, systemic autoimmune disease characterized by pain, swelling and inflammatory diseases including different types of rheumatic diseases are a major and world wide problem. Gastrointestinal side effect is the major problem associated with the presently available non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents. Now a day’s world population moves towards herbal remedies for treatment of such diseases. The use of herbal medicine becoming more popular due to its less toxicity and side effects than allopathic medicines. Medicinal plants play an important role in the development of potent therapeutic agents. The number of plants has been screened for their anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic activity, but only few of them reached up to the clinical level. In this review an attempt has been done to highlight the work on indigenous medicinal plants having anti-arthritic potential....
To present detailed pharmacognostic study of the leaf of Clerodendrum splendens, an important plant in Indian system of medicine. Methods: The macroscopy, microscopy, physiochemical analysis, preliminary testing of the leaf of the plant for standardization was investigated. Results: The vascular tissues constitute a complex system of hollow wide cylinder of unequal thickness. The vascular bundles in the other regions of the cylinder are wedge shaped and collateral having a group of diffusely distributed xylem elements mixed with narrow fibres. The entire cylinder of vascular bundles contains a thin layer of fibres and elongated prismatic calcium oxalate crystals are sparsely distributed in the central ground tissue. The lamina is distinctly dorsiventral, the adaxial and abaxial sides are heteromorphic. Short stalked peltate type of glandular trichomes is located in shallow epidermal pits. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the pharmacognostic profile of leaf of Clerodendrum splendens is helpful in developing standards for quality, purity and simple identification....
Setaria italica (Foxtail millet) is the second most widely planted species of millet, and most important in East Asia. It is an annual grass with leafy stem, inflorescence and convex shaped seeds. The present review reveals the updated information regarding the nutrients and phytoconstituents of the plant which possesses activities like anti-diabetic, hypolipidemic and diuretic, anti-arthritic, digestive and various other important medicinal properties. The pharmacological reviews on plants will give valuable information which will assist the scientist in getting more advanced knowledge about a plant species....
